Junior basketball jumps
to a higher level in Lae

By DAVID KAPI
LAE Basketball Association wants junior development of the sport to advance to new level and the PNGBF office to be based in Morobe province.
In bolstering their move, Lae have nominated incumbent LBA president Timothy Lepa to run for PNGBF presidency left vacant by Ben Davis who resigned recently, when it holds its annual general meeting on Nov 4 in Port Moresby.
Lae’s push for PNGBF seat is based on strong development plans that aim to take basketball at new heights.
LBA executives, Charlie Gorogo and John Bolo said that PNGBF needed a new directions and vision to bring the standard of the code to new level and relocating administrative office in the Lae was eminent for closer ties with associations across the country for the good of the sport.
It is anticipated that LBA and other members from areas in the Highlands such Mt Hagen, Kundiawa, Mendi and Wabag as well as others in the Momase region and Islands region are to support the move to see tangible development to the code that has been in the country for nearly 160 years.
Firstly, LBA beliefs that their recently completed school competition was a success and is the pillar to build onto in development of the sport and want ėtheir man’ to lead to fulfill their vision to establish such junior development program throughout the country.
Secondly, to move PNGBF office to Lae, claiming that Moresby is far away and more expensive for poorer associations, whereas Lae is much a central place where all basketball associations from Highlands, New Guinea Islands, Momase can access its services.
