Create change at home

I REFER to the letter “News is all bad about PNG” (Oct 5) by Andrew Kambun.
Actually, I do not like the idea of us as Papua New Guineans blaming our leaders and elders.
Instead, I say it is time we start to do something about it. We start in our own backyard and then move out. Change can only come about if and only if we do the following – think positively, show commitment in whatever we do and be honest.
Recently, we attended a youth programme in Sydney with other youths from different parts of the world and by listening to their experiences in creating change within their communities, it made the 15 of us from PNG to really think more seriously about it.
The writer asked “where are our leaders and what are their plans to address these issues?”
I would suggest if we are true Papua New Guineans, both living in PNG or overseas, we can work together by creating a “change” within our own household and the local communities, then I surely believe PNG would be a safer place to spend a memorable “honeymoon”.
