IA probing alleged assault on boy

POLICE officers from the internal affairs division are also investigating an alleged sexual assault of a boy by a policewoman two months ago.
The division’s NCD chief, Insp Steven Karmi, said yesterday the boy’s parents feared that the officers at the Boroko police station were not pursuing the matter properly.
“They sought my help after suspecting that the Sexual Offences Squad (SOS) detectives based at Boroko were suppressing the investigations to misinform Chief Supt Mark Kanawi,” he said.
Insp Karmi said he expected the SOS detectives to continue with their own investigation.
The policewoman is alleged to sexually assaulted the 13-year-boy after getting him drunk at the Tasion barracks last August.
On Wednesday, Mr Kanawi denied suppressing investigations, saying that SOS detectives were still collecting information from the complainants.
The parents claimed that no action seemed to have been taken.
