THE prolonged traffic congestion and overcrowding at the main Wewak town market has finally come under the microscope of the town commission.
Under the management of the newly appointed town manager David Tobena, plans were now underway to ease up the traffic congestion and restore the entire township to its former glory.
In an interview with The National, Mr Tobena said a proposal was underway for a greens market only for locally-grown fresh produces alone.
He said this would mean licensed peddlers, street vendors and the main informal sector service providers would be assigned certain areas and amenities to do business.
This would help ease up the havoc of traffic congestion experienced everyday in Wewak.
Mr Tobena was also committed to work towards boosting the moral and investor confidence under his management.
He said other areas that needed attention included areas around town and airport.
The town’s beautification programme started by former manager Paul Hukahu will also be carried on by the new administration as it will lure tourists and visitors to Wewak.
Meanwhile, Mr Tobena also appealed to all stakeholders, concerned citizens and all business houses to take pride and show concern to assist where they could.
He also thanked the Filipino Association of PNG through its Wewak branch for erecting a rest hut for commuters at Caltex bus stop.
