Port Moresby softball gets a lot more serious

By EKONIA PENI
PNG Power and Airways Bears will give the Digicel Port Moresby men’s softball competition a stir when they clash in the match of the weekend on Sunday.
Both teams won their respective matches in round one last weekend and will prove themselves in meet of the titans.
The Bears beat Samurai 10-nil while PNG Power belted the premiers Brown Eagles 4-nil to avenge last year’s grand final loss. In the other results last weekend SPIA Manolos edged LBC Gazelle 4-3, Malangan beat Dolphins 6-3 and Bullets stung Kopex 10-8.
The power men will bank their chances on short stopper Dimitries Wosley, Michael Parom, skipper Alister Tavol and the Tovia brothers Demas, Isikel Junior and Daniel to lead the assault against Bears.
The team has maintain its focused since last season’s finals and they are favoured to†upstage the grizzlies.
In the other matches tomorrow, Gazelle should beat Samurai and a close tussle should be expected between Bullets and Malangan.
In the Sunday matches Manolos should have an easy run against Dolphins, while Eagles should expect some fire works from unpredictable Kopex.
After round one results PNG Power, SPIA Manaolos, Airways Bears, Malangan and Bullets share the points ladder on two points each after winning their respective matches.
Kopex, LBC Gazelle, Dolphins, Samurai and Brown Eagles have yet to win a game.
Meanwhile, clubs have been reminded to attend the annual general meeting of the association which has been scheduled for Oct 17 at the Elcom Training College at Hohola.
The AGM will give the opportunity to club delegates to elect the new executives to run Port Moresby men’s softball association.
It will also enable the delegates to elect members to the sponsorship and fundraising committee, the disciplinary committee and the grounds committee.
