A PROMINENT journalist and communication arts lecturer and two students
at the Divine Word University in Madang escaped death after they were
attacked and slashed with bush knives near 4 Mile market in Madang on
Saturday.
Journalist Kevin Pamba, who was admitted to the emergency ward at Modilon
Hospital, told reporters yesterday that he was driving along the main road
past 4 Mile market when he and his passengers were attacked.
“Someone threw a stone on my front windscreen and smashed it as I drove past
4 Mile market towards a village further down the road and I stopped the
vehicle and came out to enquire when two suspects began to swear and abuse
us and began to attack us with bush knives,” a shaken Mr Pamba, who is in a
stable condition said from his hospital bed yesterday.
“I was slashed on my head with the bush knife and on my back and foot as I
got out of the vehicle and asked who had smashed my windscreen.
“The two students were also attacked and one lost two front left fingers and
the other hand, a part of his nose was slashed with the bush knives by the
people.”
Madang police said they were investigating.
