Namah unhappy with Ilau remarks

FOREST Minister Green Belden Namah is unhappy with PNG Defence Force commander Peter Ilau’s reluctance to relocate the two army bases in Vanimo and Wewak to the border to monitor security threats and illegal activities.
He regards Mr Ilau’s comments last Thursday as “insubordination in nature”.
He said the duty of the Defence Force chief was to serve the State.
“The commander is there to implement Government directions. He has no right whatsoever to question Government decisions. It is his job as a bureaucrat to carry out Government decisions,” he told a press conference last Friday.
On Thursday, Mr Ilau said Mr Namah’s submission to cabinet to relocate the bases was an “economic question”.
He said it was a complex undertaking involving families, infrastructure and facilities which would require significant funds.
Mr Namah said Mr Ilau should not worry about the cost of relocating the bases but leave it to the Government.
He said soldiers must be prepared to leave their families to perform their duty.
