By VERONICA MANUK
KIMBE hospital in West New Britain is the only hospital in the country that
is undergoing a massive redevelopment exercise.
Hospital chief executive officer Mark Mauludu said Kimbe hospital was the
only hospital in the country that had taken lead to do a major redevelopment
work with overwhelming support received from the provincial government and
the New Britain Palm Oil Limited (NBPOL).
He said the redevelopment of the hospital was planned for seven stages with
the estimation cost of K15million and planned to be completed in six to
seven years.
Mr Mauludu said the second stage of the redevelopment exercise was about to
be completed and handed over to the hospital board next Monday and was
funded by PNG Incentive Fund.
The second stage included six new buildings, pharmacy, X-Ray, dental
department, public toilet, consultation clinic, medical records, patients
kitchens and pathology department.
He said the cost of the second stage would be revealed once all the
buildings for first stage were completed.
The first stage of the work funded by PNG Incentive Fund with the support of
WNB provincial government at the cost of K1million include adult outpatient,
children’s outpatient, few toilets and Emergency unit.
He said as the hospital was winding up the second stage, the third stage is
on market and waiting sponsors.
The third stage includes outpatient theatre, maternity ward, children’s
ward, administration buildings, intensive care and staff houses.
He said the hospital would launch its 2008-2010 official document during the
general annual meeting on Nov 22.
Mr Mauludu said the document would be a public document and outline
activities that would involve the five last stages (stage 3-7) of the
hospital redevelopment for public to see and give support.
The CEO said he was impressed that the provincial government and NBPOL had
responded well since the work started.
“I am impressed that the government had responded,” he said.
