EHP police re-arrest escapee

By ZACHERY PER
GOROKA police last weekend re-captured a wanted criminal who escaped from prison last month.
Eastern Highlands provincial police commander Supt Philip Solala yesterday confirmed the arrest of Simon Nema, a most-wanted escapee.
He said Nema bolted from the Goroka jail last month shortly after he was locked up for allegedly holding up the Chemica Ltd personnel last August and made of with over K26,000 in cash and cheques.
The suspect’s escape had worried the Chemica management until his recapture last Saturday, police said.
He said police nabbed Nema at the Goroka main market and recovered a bush knife tucked in his back.
Nema had been at the Goroka police cell since last Saturday and would appear before the Goroka district court this week.
Supt Solala said police would charge Nema with armed robbery, escaping from lawful custody and being in possession of a deadly weapon.
