Kumuls hopefuls match takes shape
By DAVID KAPI
The fight for Telikom PNG Kumuls jumper is on already with players starting
to arrive in Port Moresby.
The meeting of two possible Kumuls team, one local and the other overseas
based, in two weeks time is a dream come true for Coach Adrian Lam to give
players more opportunity and at the same to select the best from the rest to
play in the national team.
Lam said last week he was pleased with the idea of having a pool of players
to choose from and to take representative games to a higher level.
“This concept will be the cornerstone for fair representation and to bring
rep footy to new level. And it’s important that all players are determined
to wear Kumuls jumper,” Lam said then.
Some of the overseas-based Kumuls hopefuls arrived in Port Moresby yesterday
for the inaugural Telikom Origin Residents versus the Internationals in a
one-off rugby league match.
The overseas-based players in Australia, France and the United Kingdom
include Stanley Gene, Makali Aizu and John Wilshire.
Michael Marum-coached local payers are already in camp stationed at
Grandville Motel in Port Moresby while the overseas-based players should
have a full line-up by tomorrow for a one-week training for the match on
Saturday, Oct 20, at Lloyd Robson Oval in Port Moresby.
Following the match, PNG selectors will name a side for the France Tour in
November.
Tickets for the Oct 20 match are available in all Telikom outlets, K20 for
outer stands and K100 for grand stand per head.
PNGRFL and major sponsor Telikom PNG Ltd said that no tickets will be sold
at the gate.
