Kuki fall to classy teams

GIG Volleyball Association at Gereka Village just outside Port Moresby ended its 2007 season on Saturday with class volleyball challenge in both the men’s and the women’s grand final.
It was unfortunate that Kuki men and women were outclassed by their more fancied opponents in Emomaea and Tramps Boutique Zulu Crusaders respectively.
In the women’s encounter, Crusaders were too classy cruising away with a first two sets to 25-14 and 25-16.
There were some good cover defence and placing shots.
Not to be outdone Zulu with skipper Theodoa Keneke rose to the occasion in the next set.
And with good support from Maria Liva, Marie Komoke, Noz Dianne and good cover defence from Mum Langloi, Vari Keneke, Rose Wivu and Yvonne and Airon Angie they managed to win the fourth set 25-15 and the game.
The men’s match saw some class volleyball with sharp attacks, tight defence and brilliant cover.
Hukie settled quickly in the first set and won 25-19.
Emomaea after the warming up and sharing of the vibes came back strongly to win the next two sets 25-20 and 27-25.
Not to be scratched out of the match, and led by Raym Ovunou Hukie fought back to win the fourth set 25-22 and
level the game.
At two sets apiece, thus planning the deciding sets, height advantages did not discourage Emomaea as both teams exchanged fire with fire as they struggle to win.
At the end of the day Emomaea led by Jeffrey Mado and young Prior took out the final set
to win the premiership 15-12.
