Volleyball preparations all set

PREARATIONS are underway for the National Volleyball titles in Port Moresby this weekend.
From the initial eight associations that registered last week another seven have signed up for the Oct 19-21 tournament at Sir John Guise Stadium.
Tournament director, Kila Oli said registration deadline was last week but due to last minute interest it closes today.
With that the further seven associations including defending men’s champions Vabukori and women’s NCD have made up their mind to compete to retain their title.
According to Oli, the increase of teams has lifted the spirits of the tournament with 39 teams confirmed, 22 men’s and 17 women.
Few centres have already arrived with a bulk of them due tomorrow and Thursday.
This year’s challenge has seen a lot of interest in the local villagers and according to PNG Volleyball (PNGVF) executives the locals have good volleyballers and should be hard to beat.
The organising committee and PNGVF will meet today to discuss the tournament and related issues before the opening on Friday.
In the lead-up to the games there will be a refresher course for all technical officers at Kira Kira village. Details are available from Sebea Sogo on 691 1001 or Kila Oli on 682 3622.
