RIC wants best out from K356m

THE Rural Industries Council (RIC) wants the Government to ensure the people get the best quality infrastructure from the K356 million allocated in the 2007 Supplementary Budget.
Treasurer and Finance Minister Patrick Pruaitch announced in his supplementary budget that K356 million had been allocated to District Level Infrastructure Development, from which each of PNG’s 89 districts would receive K4 million.
RIC chairman Brown Bai said in a statement yesterday that while the rural industries applauded this move, the members wanted to emphasise that this should not be a “one-stop-shop” exercise like in the past, where the Government had roads built but then neglected and let them deteriorate into bush tracks.
“The Government must continue to ensure that we have the best quality infrastructure in the rural areas,” Mr Bai said.
