Davani stars for KOSSA

PAPUA New Guinea international Reginald Davani scored his first screamer goal when he appeared for the Solomon Islands’ O-League-bound KOSSA last week.
The striker gave a new lease of life in the KOSSA side, accompanied by lofty Fijian defender Ratu Inosi Cava, to beat Zome Mars 7-1 in the 2007 DJ League competition.
The two Melanesian imports gave a wonderful show for the soccer-mad Solomon Islanders something to smile about.
KOSSA also created history in the local competition by importing players from other countries, something which is quite new. But with the O-League in place, more is expected.
Both Davani and Cava took the field from the bench at second half when the score was 5-0 in favour of KOSSA but Davani, playing from his midfield position, pelted a 20m bullet that caught the keeper off-guard and fans jumped in jubilation with their new find.
Davani played against KOSSA early this year with the PNG national team scoring both goals in PNG’s 2-1 win but said the O-League is a more attractive proposition with the Solomon Islanders.
Coach Willie Lai had said Davani and Cava are their only overseas acquired players.
KOSSA will host the first leg of the O-League match against Tafea of Vanuatu at Lawson Tama Stadium in Honiara on Oct 27.
