A MAJOR coffee buyer from Germany who, in his younger days, lived with the people of Asaro valley in Eastern Highlands province, returned to his former home in Goroka last week to do big business.
Cord von Enden, who was first exposed to coffee growing and trading in the 60s and 70s at the Nomba coffee plantation in the upper Asaro, expressed delight of having been able to visit the Yondu Coffee estate where he worked long time ago.
He was one of the managers of the then Angco Coffee in Goroka where he learnt the coffee trade.
Mr Enden, who imports PNG coffee into Germany and distributes this to coffee buyers in Europe and overseas, said he wanted to buy export coffee beans that Yondu Coffee would be producing soon.
Mr Enden also visited some of the local coffee exporters.
He said it was good to return and know that Yondu coffee actually come out of upper Asaro (Nomba), the home of high-quality coffee that was being enjoyed by coffee lovers in many parts of the world.
Mr Enden was welcomed at Yondu Coffee’s new coffee factory in Goroka by a singsing group, Asaro mudmen and company personnel and their families.
Surprised with the welcome reception, he said his wife and himself had once again felt part of the people of Nomba.
The couple said their first born daughter was born at the Goroka Base Hospital and that Eastern Highlands province was like their other home.
