OC to probe telco bribe claims

THE Ombudsman Commission will investigate claims that a telecommunication company bribed some politicians and also threatened them with a “political crisis” if they did not support it.
Chief Ombudsman Ila Geno said the company was also alleged to have given mobile phones to some MPs.
He said any MP who had received such gifts should return them.
“Elected leaders have a duty to conduct their public duties as required by the Constitution. The public expects nothing less. There is no other way to achieve good governance and good leadership for this country,” he said in a statement.
“It is of grave importance that our leaders musty comply with the Constitution and take conscious steps to ensure that any official business is conducted in a transparent manner and that their public offices and the interests of the country are not compromised.”
