Museum Board taking on a fresh start

THE National Museum and Art Gallery Board is now working hard to clear allegations of misappropriation that were committed by its past management.
These allegations had also resulted in the suspension of its director Simon Poraituk by the National Executive Council to allow an investigation to take place into the allegations.
The assurance was revealed to The National during a board meeting at the National Museum at Waigani in Port Moresby yesterday.
Acting National Museum and Art Gallery director Vincent Kaupa was also present at the meeting with 12 members of the board.
The board said they were now putting operation and administration mechanism in place to improve the image of its management and the condition of the museum that was negatively portrayed in the media.
Early this year, Anglimp South Waghi MP Jamie Maxtone-Graham revealed in Parliament that the museum had been closed for three years.
Funds totalling K3 million for its operation and administration were allegedly misused by the past management.
