Probe into Immigration, Trade, Labour nears end

AN investigation into allegations of corruption at the Foreign Affairs and Trade Department and the Labour Department is near completion.
The investigators are now preparing to visit a number of entry points, including Vanimo, Daru and Mt Hagen and other strategic areas like Lae, Madang and West New Britain to interview officials and the locals.
Chief Secretary to the Government Isaac Lupari, who initiated the investigation last Sept 3, said anyone with information should contact the authorities.
“Not only should people provide information that will expose such corrupt practices, the team will also welcome suggestions on how best to improve services within these two government departments,” he said.
Last Sept 10, the team visited the employment promotion division at the Labour Department to look at how applications for work permits were being processed.
Two days later, it visited the Immigration and Citizenship Division of the Foreign Affairs and Trade Department.
The team had also interviewed staff at several Government departments, apart from the two being investigated, including the National Intelligence Organisation, Customs and the National Capital District Commission.
