MCC continues supporting school sports

Metallurgical Construction Corporation (MCC) Limited, developer of the Ramu Nickel Project in Madang project, is committed in supporting impact areas in all facets of social developments.
Christopher Aizuwe, the chief sports coordinator of MCC said this at the presentation of sports equipment and trophies worth K1,200 at Bongu primary school in the Rai Coast area, last Friday.
“MCC is committed in the long term to support sports development,” Christopher told the teams and villagers along the Coastal Pipeline area.
“Now, let us work together as partners in the development of this project,” he said.
The sports coordinator told the people at Bongu that supporting sports is one of MCC’s primary focuses.
He said the company will soon establish a plan and budget to include all impacted areas in sports development.
“It is not true that MCC would spend K386,000 for sports in the next five years. We are still planning and a full budget would soon be established for sports in all the project impact areas,” Christopher said.
The chairman of Coastal Pipeline Landowners Association, Steven Saud, praised MCC for its continued support to sports in the area.
He said that Rai Coast area is known for soccer with two players, Albert and Danny Gabong representing Papua New Guinea.
“Now with the backing of the company a lot of hidden talents will be exposed and that is good for our community,” Saud said.
Teams from the surrounding villages converged to Bongu for the inaugural sports tournament.
The weeklong tournament ended last Saturday. More than 10 local teams participated in the sports of volleyball and basketball.
The headmaster of Bongu primary school thanked MCC and the management for assisting the school in hosting the tournament.
