IPBC boss tells Telikom to learn from competitor Digicel

THE chairman of the Independent Public Business Commission (IPBC) has welcomed competition in the telecommunications sector and encouraged Telikom PNG Ltd to live with it.
“Competition has given more services to Papua New Guineans by giving them a choice,” Sumasin Singin said as he inaugurated Telikom’s new business centre last week in downtown Port Moresby.
“We must get up and work,” Mr Singin told acting managing director Peter Loko and his executives.
He encouraged the former telco monopoly to learn from Digicel.
Mr Singin told Telikom executives: “Move forward … see who are in competition with us … see their structure and to see the technology they have imported.
“We can’t stay and say that I’m a monopoly … by today, you know that (under) the Government policy, NEC (National Executive Council) has opened up the gates.”
Telikom is one of the entities under IPBC and is 100%-owned by the Government.
