COLUMN I
AND we wish you all a
happy and successful week as yet another month hiccups to a close.
***
WE’LL dive straight into Quiz land; we’ve a few outstanding Quizzers
to address. Firstly the Cheshire quiz; David Wissink gave us the outline of
Lord Cheshire’s life and a number of others filed correct entries. Among
them: Max White from Brisbane – greetings Max – and Col Shephard from Yamba
NSW.
***
COL and David accessed a similar information source but for those who
want more links, here’s the e-mail contact: http://www.leonard-cheshire.org/?lid=20
and http://www. ryder-cheshire.org/who_we_are.htm. He adds that the PNG
Cheshire Home was named after Group Capt Lord Cheshire of Woodhall, VC OM
DSO DFC (1917-1992).
***
THEN came a top response and a few striking comments from regular
Quizzer Benzamin Zairo. We’ll let Benz do the talking: “I tell you, it’s a
rare species of human walking on the Earth who will divert all his attention
to a cause which is impossible to achieve during his era. Not to mention
gaining nothing profitable out of it.”
***
“IN Leonard Cheshire’s case, it was the love and concern he extended
to others. His life showed that he believed all of us are created equal by
providing the means to making sure disabled people have every possible
opportunity in their lives.”
***
BENZAMIN adds: “Read just one clause of what the Cheshire Home
charter outlines.” Here’s the extract: “That each person, whatever his or
her disability, is a uniquely valuable individual and that disabled people
should have the personal freedom to pursue their aspirations and take their
own place in the world.”
***
OUR correspondent added “it’s amazing that through the beliefs of
people like Cheshire, we now have Paralympics, a para code of ethics in many
work places and disabled people are not seen in terms of their physical
disability but rather their brains, talents, influence and wisdom.”
**
FINALLY, Benz says of Cheshire: “This was his calling – what is
ours?” BZ, thanks for the thoughtful entry – and Quizzers such as Rob and
Marj Parer at Aitape, Ms Devjani Chaudhuri in Canada, Zyz down there in
Adelaide or Steve Anda at Pangtel should tune in tomorrow …
