PNGDF may introduce reserve force

THE PNG Defence Force (PNGDF) will be hosting a reserve force seminar today and tomorrow at the Sir John Guise Indoor Sports Complex in Port Moresby.
Deputy Prime Minister and Abau MP Dr Puka Temu will officially open the seminar and Governor-General Sir Paulias Matane will close it.
Guest speakers from New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Fiji and Vanuatu including from some Government agencies in PNG are expected to give talks on the reserve force concept benefits in their respective countries and how it can work in PNG to assist the reduction of social problems and emergency situations that arise.
PNGDF commander Commodore Peter Ilau said in the 21st century, PNGDF had seen and experienced many challenges in the context of economics, social and security.
“The PNGDF’s ongoing reforms apart from revitalisation and modernisation of its capabilities and infrastructure as part and parcel of its rebuild programme also addresses new capabilities to assist government in its development plans.
“The public and private sectors are encouraged to contribute constructively for a reserve force that is tailored around PNG’s development aspirations,” Mr Ilau said.
He said the reserve force would need men and women from all walks of life to be part of an affordable organisation with smart human resource pool aimed at making a difference in defence, security, infrastructure and social development of PNG.
