THE National Capital District Commission (NCDC) board met last Friday but did not shortlist the candidates for the post of city manager.
Sources said the six candidates were still being interviewed.
The board had been expected to drop one of the candidates and submit the other five names to the National Executive Council for a decision.
The six are acting city manager Lesley Alu, former MP Nick Kuman, Col Walter Enuma, Iva Kola, Vai Reva and Aiwa Olmi.
The board met only for a short while last Friday, during which the chairman spoke on the revision of the NCDC budget.
Opposition leader and Moresby Northwest MP Sir Mekere Morauta and Community Development Minister and Moresby South MP Dame Carol Kidu were not present.
Meanwhile, NCDC Governor Powes Parkop had assured residents that a good candidate would be appointed to the post.
“It is my intention to ensure that city gets a good city manager who can assist me to manage the commission in a way expected of by our residents,” he said.
He said he had no vested interest in who became the city manager.
“All I am interested in is that he is someone who can ensure that funds are properly used to benefit the city residents and the National Capital District and that there is proper audit and accountability in place,” he said.
“My intention is to make NCDC leaner, more efficient in delivery of services to our residents and to stop or reduce to a minimum the abuse and misuse of funds.”
Mr Parkop said he would ensure that all senior executives and divisional managers of NCDC were placed on performance-based contract; “so that their continued employment depends on their performance and achievement”.
Me Parkop said he also directed Mr Alu to find out who leaked out information regarding the applications for the city manager’s post.
“The person responsible will be dismissed,” he said.
