Ramu ready as host

THE sugar town of Ramu in Madang has been confirmed as the venue for the 2007 National All Stars basketball championships.
The November 2-4 event have attracted six major centers which include Capital Basketball League (CBL ñ Port Moresby), Lae, Goroka, Madang, Kundiawa, Kavieng, Lihir and host Ramu Sugar.
Basketball Federation of PNG acting president Ben Davis said it was imperative that all intending associations wishing to participate in the championships settle their overdue and outstanding affiliation fees along with the team nomination fees to the BFPNG.
He stressed that only affiliated association who meet these requirements will be confirmed to participate.
Davis said the deadline for affiliation and team nomination fees is tomorrow (Friday October 19). For more information, the association can contact Secretary or NBDO Ronnie Mea on 685 8229.
Meanwhile, the 2006 annual general meeting originally deferred from April 2007, will now be held to coincides with the All-Star Basketball championships on Saturday, Nov 3.
He said all association presidents or their delegates must contact the Secretary immediately to confirm their attendance and receive AGM documentation particularly for elections of vacant positions and voting requirements.
In other basketball related stories, the 2008 National Junior Championships held in Lae recently was a success in terms of participation of new players into the code.
Lae teams held of strong competition from rivals Port Moresby and up-coming Ramu Basketball Association to lift the competition from the previous year.
The select 30 man training squads for both the U20 Boys and Girls teams is expected to be released by the end of the month.
