THERE will be no bed for visiting scientists and researchers at the Wau Ecology Institute in Wau, Morobe province for sometime.
The guest house which is home to many travelling research scientists was burned down last Friday.
Wau Ecology Institute station manager Wagi Kukubol confirmed the incident and said the suspect had been apprehended and handed over to police.
“The suspect broke into the guest house and set it alight for unknown reasons.
“He was later apprehended by his relatives and handed over to police.
“The reason for the arson had not been immediately known and police were questioning him,” Mr Kukubol said.
“It is shocking as we don’t know the real motive behind this. It is now a police matter and police were dealing with it and I can’t make any further comments on the incident.”
Morobe provincial police commander Chief Insp Augustine Wampe said he was not aware as he was yet to be informed by his police station commander Insp Alan Gualin.
He said he was at his mother’s funeral in Lae and could not comment on the incident.
