Vandals attack phone cables in PoM
anew
PHONE service in Gordon and surrounding areas was down after
Telikom landline cables were vandalised during the early hours of yesterday.
A Telikom spokesman told The National yesterday a wide area in Gordon was
affected particularly the business community.
Technicians were on site fixing the damaged cables and were expected to
restore the lines sometime this afternoon or tomorrow morning.
The attacks were considered by Telikom as “criminal acts that were not of
theft of the copper cables but rather destructive”.
The spokesman added that Telikom had to spend at least K100,000 monthly to
maintain the cables as acts of vandalism on the telephone facility had
become more frequent.
“The attacks are happening more often and in places that where we least
expected,” the spokesman said.
Telikom was appealing for information on the culprits, saying that the
company is owned by the people.
