Telikom training college observes Open Day

By PETER KORUGL
THE Telikom Training College in Lae, Morobe province, came alive recently when the college held its open day.
Traditional singsings, dramas and live music performances were among the many activities that were staged for the members of the public that went to the Open Day.
Telikom PNG Ltd was out there in force, promoting its new products and services to the people.
The open day, an outreach concept designed to market the college and expose its activities was part of the celebration marking the 29th anniversary of the college’s establishment.
The college was established and officially opened by the then Prime Minister Sir Julius Chan at this time in 1978 along with displays and demonstrations by the students and staff of the college on the various types of courses offered.
Students and staff last Tuesday took time off their usual studies and work to show the members of the public what the college was doing in the area of training manpower for the telecommunication industry in the PNG and the Pacific.
The anniversary was concluded yesterday with its 20th graduation ceremony.
There were 200 students graduated with certificates and diplomas in all aspects of telecommunication and electronics.
“This is one of the biggest graduations we held. I am happy because most of the students that graduated had passed their exams with flying colours,” Principal Sidia Pokopia told The National.
The grandaunts and their relatives had also took part in the Open Day activities.
