Provincial government urged to give
priority to health services
By JAMES APA GUMUNO
THE chairman of the Mt Hagen General Hospital has appealed to the
Western Highlands provincial government to give priority to health
services.
David Guinn said yesterday that the hospitals needed more funds to
function properly and provide better health services to the people.
He said the hospital, for example, needed more specialists.
He also hoped that some funds would be forthcoming from the K1.63
billion Supplementary Budget announced by the Government recently.
Mr Guinn was speaking at the official opening of a K4.7 million facility
at the hospital yesterday.
Also present was Governor Tom Olga and AusAID representatives.
Mr Olga thanked the previous government for facilitating vital
infrastructure developments at the hospital.
He said that AusAID had funded many important projects in the province
like the upgrading of the Notre Dame Secondary school, redevelopment of
Kudjip Hospital and Mt Hagen market.
He said the Mt Hagen Hospital not only serve the people of Western
Highlands but also people from Enga and Southern Highlands.
He presented a cheque for K100,000 to the hospital for its operational
costs.
