‘Global warming a threat’

By VERONICA MANUK
THE president of Organisation for Industrial, Spiritual and Cultural Advancement International (OISCA) has issued a stern warning on the dangers of global warming.
Dr Yoshiko Y Nikano said according to the inter-governmental panel for climate change – organised within the United Nations in the last century – the climate temperature has increase by 0.64 degree Celsius and the panel predicted that in the next 100 years it would increase by 6.4 degrees Celsius causing cities and places like Rabaul to submerge.
Dr Nikano said this during the launching of the East New Britain provincial tree planting love green day at Kokopo Eco Wild Life Park.
She said the world population would also decrease if global climate was affected.
Dr Nikano called on the people to preserve Mother Earth and its nature by participating in activities like tree-planting.
Meanwhile, Governor Leo Dion said the tree-planting project was part of the whole soil erosion control component approved by the provincial executive council which received half a million from the K20 million earmarked for disaster projects.
Mr Dion said tree-planting would be an annual event which would include awareness campaigns and cleaning the environment, among others.
