Nawaeb people urged to demand better services

THE people of Nawaeb have been leading an ignorant life for far too long. It is about time you demanded better service from your MP.
Satisfaction with handout of sugar, rice and tinned fish is sending us back to the Stone Age.
Check the number of Nawaeb children in higher education and you will see only those with access to good roads are sending their kids to colleges and universities.
At present the majority are from Musom, Gobadik, Waing and Nabak, ironically, all along Governor Luther Wenge’s PMV route.
But what about those in Busu, Wagang, Bukaua, Buingim and the hinterland of Burum and Kosorong?
This portion of the electorate is disconnected from the rest of Morobe province because there is no road. Why should these people pay K20 to K50 in sea transport when the equivalent road distance would cost around K3 in land transportation?
This situation will have serious social economic consequence as the signs are already evident. No access to markets is preventing parents from selling their produce to pay for their children’s education.
This means most of these children remain in the villages after Grade 6 and have very limited options to contribute to the development of their communities.
This has been happening since Sept 16, 1975. The result is people, 32 years after independence, continue to walk for days to reach the nearest seaport to catch a boat to Lae.
Agriculture produce such as coffee, bananas, taro and vegetables are going to waste and not benefiting from the huge demand in Lae markets.
Wenger and Nawaeb MP Timothy Bonga will have to prove their leadership by addressing this chronic problem.
It is your actions in addressing these issues that will decide your future, not the number of parties you host in villages, religious titles or your silly comments about superiority of black citizen over white citizens.
