Entry rule tougher for volleyball title

VOLLEYBALL players will have to work extra hard to win selection in the national team if the new championships format comes into place next year.
PNG Volleyball Federation, at its council meeting held in Port Moresby at the weekend to coincide with the volleyball championships, had endorsed a motion to do away with associations attending championship.
Under new format endorsed and sanctioned by the PNG Volleyball Federation council, the championships will now open to all regional teams.
According to PNGVF vice-president Bernard Alu, the teams in the four regions will stage their respective intra-regional championships to select their teams to take part in the National Championships.
He said Momase have already implemented it with the selection of players during their regional volleyball championships in Vanimo, West Sepik province.
Alu said the council executive headed by Maria Warupi had fully endorsed the regional participation at the National Volleyball championships in the future.
Warupi said there would be no more associations attending the national championships but a regional team representing the region.
