No ID, no PX flights

AIR Niugini said yesterday that passengers who bought tickets through its electronic ticketing (e-ticket) system must produce their identification document.
It said those without an acceptable document to confirm their identities would not be allowed to board the aircraft.
Last week, 14 people were barred from boarding several Air Niugini flights. Eight were arrested.
“They attempted to board the planes without identification cards. Police were called in, resulting in their arrest,” chief executive officer Wasantha Kumarasiri said in a statement yesterday.
He said there had been instances at the airport where people with IDs bought e-tickets, check-ed in and then gave their tickets away to other people to board the plane.
“This is illegal and I’m urging the public to follow the right procedures. People have also been warned not to buy tickets from vendors,” he said.
The airline introduced the electronic ticketing last year and only persons with an identification document can use the service.
