Boil costly for our sole fighter

FRANCIS Oaike, PNG’s lone boxer at the World Championships in Chicago, USA, has been ruled out of the tournament on medical grounds.
Oiake wept openly when told of the AIBA medical team decision not to let him fight because of a boil on the left side of his lips.
Team manager John Avira said by email from Chicago that it was an unfortunate decision for young Oiake.
“A day before the fight he developed a boil around the left side of his lips. Our doctor treated him with antibiotic but it could not heal up in time for the weigh in,”
“The Medical Commission ruled him medically unfit on safety grounds of the boxer. We were all obviously disappointed with the decision but we couldn't do any thing about it despite our appeal to allow him to fight,” Avira said.
Avira said the AIBA medical team was more concerned about the long-term implication health of the boxer.
Dr Gideon Kendino, who is also the member of the AIBA medical team, is submitting a full medial report on the situation to the president.
He said he knows that it was disappointing news for PNG.
