Arel with gifted hands for Octopus

BUNDI is in the highlands of Madang province bordering Simbu and far away from the sea.
But a young man from the mountains of Bundi had found a niche in hunting and catching octopus and squids in the waters around Madang town virtually every day.
The nuggety fellow is common sight around the picturesque coastline of Madang town often with his catch and fishing spear and goggles.
In fact, Bob Arel makes a living out of his passion of catching octopus and squids. On an average day, this Bundi fisherman can fetch between K80 and K90 and on a good day it can be K150.
Arel had been so good with his art of catching octopus and squids that the maritime people have marvelled and asked him how he did it. ‘Em gift blong mi. Mi save teachim planti lain but oli no save mekim gut’ (It is my gift. I teach many people to fish octopus and squids but they don’t do well),’ Mr Arel said.
