Kundiawa GH staff woes

By JAMES APA GUMUNO
THE Kundiawa General Hospital does not have enough personnel to meet the growing number of patients.
A source said yesterday a number of personnel had already resigned to find new employment.
The source said the hospital handled more than 100 patients daily with various complaints, with a number of them coming from Western Highlands, Southern Highlands and Enga provinces.
The source said hospital staff had been all unattached since last year and were just working on acting positions.
He said all the positions were advertised last year but applications had been all pending because the chief executive officer (CEO) had not been appointed to date.
The source said the personnel were being paid as casuals and this had affected their morale and performance. Many had been forced to leave to work in other medical facilities.
He said since last year three doctors, three health extension officers, one lab technician and many other personnel with the administrative department left.
The source said current personnel had just been on acting position since 18 months ago.
The source said once a new CEO was appointed he or she would sit with the board and go through with the pending applications.
The source revealed that the hospital board had recommended one of their men to the Public Service Commission (PSC) but the PSC turned him down and appointed another person.
