Stage set for schoolboys rugby league grand final

THE stage is set for the Lae schoolboys to play its grand final at the Lae rugby league grounds on Sunday.
Northern Zone rugby league development officer Steve Malum said 12 teams in six different divisions will face each other for the major honors this year in their respective divisions.
“The teams challenging each others are equally strong and the outcome is pretty hard to predict as all have been improving with every game they played this year,” Malum said.
“The grand final was postponed to this time of the year due to the school examinations and the continuous heavy rains as experienced in Lae in the past few months,” he added.
Malum thanked all the sponsors Milo for sponsoring the schoolboys rugby league competition and schools taking part in the school boy competition and the teachers for their time and efforts in organising their different schools for taking part in the competition this year.
Lae Secondary School had three teams making the grand finals this year in the 15, 16 and 17 years divisions respectively.
Huonville plays Butibam in the 12 years division, Butibam taking on Markham Road in 13 years division, St Mary’s faces Milfordhaven in 15 years division.
Lae Secondary School plays Markham Road in 16 years division, Busu meet Lae Secondary in 17 years division ands Bugandi wrestle it out with Lae Secondary.

In place to help
THE PNG Sports Foundation in conjunction with Trukai Industries will launch another sporting programme in Huhu Local level Government area in Milne Bay province next week.
The Trukai Youth Sports Programme has been in existence since 1995 and it continues to deliver successful programmes.
The programme manager Scott Vavine expressed satisfaction over the progress of the programme over the past years for the number of recipients who have benefitted form it.
Vavine said covering the total nation with more than 3,000 sports leaders is something to be proud of
In Huhu LLG area, the programme had attracted 40 community sports leaders who are going to through a week long sports administration course.
“This training will no doubt gear them up for any community sports organization they are engaged in,” Vavine said
