Cops: Man killed in retaliation

A MAN was killed in retaliation for the murder of a Watut man at a settlement in Wau, Morobe province, last Tuesday.
A police spokesman said the Watut man was walking to town at about 7pm when he was stabbed.
The victim, who was not identified, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Wau health centre.
“Relatives of the deceased tracked down a suspect and slashed him to death,” the spokesman said.
He said they did not know why the Watut man was attacked.
“The death of the other man, believed to be from Mumeng district, make our investigation a whole lot harder,” he told The National.
The spokesman also said that they had arrested and charged a man with burning down a guesthouse at the Wau Ecology Institute two weeks ago.
He said that although the man was cooperative, the reason for the arson was still not known.
