THREE foreigners were charged in Western Highlands
last Tuesday with obtaining visas through fraud.
The two Chinese nationals and a Filipino were detained during a joint
operation by the immigration and police in the North and South Waghi
districts.
They are expected to appear before the Mt Hagen District Court tomorrow
for mention.
The three are Chen Jing-quin, Zheng Mei-mei and Echon Arnel Lemque.
Sources told The National that Chen entered the country two years ago
supposedly to work for company called Vercranne Ltd based in Port
Moresby while Zheng came on a dependent visa but were found operating a
lotto shop at Minj road junction.
Last month, a Chinese national was also arrested from the same shop for
not having a visa.
The sources said Lemque arrived in PNG 10 years ago supposedly to work
for Waghi Kess Trading as a hotel and restaurant manager based in
Western Highlands province.
He was found operating a trade store at Nondugl road junction near Waghi
Bridge in the North Waghi district.
The sources said although the three persons had valid visas, they were
not engaged in activities as stipulated.
