MURDER and rape cases reported throughout the country for the first 10 months this year have dropped compared with the same period last year, according to statistics released by the office of the deputy commissioner (operation) yesterday.
Statistics showed that there were 424 murder cases reported this year and 496 last year.
Port Moresby and Western Highlands province (WHP) reported the highest cases of rape and murder this year.
But Port Moresby has seen a decrease with 95 murder cases reported this year compared to 119 last year.
However, it was the opposite in WHP, with 69 cases this year compared to 58 last year.
There has been no reported case of murder in Sandaun province this year.
Statistics also showed that 526 rape cases were reported this year compared to 642 last year.
WHP had 96 cases reported and Port Moresby with 91 cases, the highest this year.
Gulf province has no reported rape case this year.
