Suspects handed to police

VILLAGES in the Dunantina area in Eastern Highlands have handed over three suspects of armed robbery to police in Goroka.
The three are believed to have shot a PMV driver during a hold-up a few weeks ago. Another suspect is still on the run.
Chief peace negotiator for the area Robert Atiafa and leaders handed over the men to the provincial police chief Supt Philip Solala.
Mr Atiafa was engaged by the governor’s office to negotiate peace for clans involved in a tribal fight in the area.
Following the shooting incident, other PMV drivers and passengers burnt down two houses and destroyed food and cash crops in the area.
Mr Atiafa told The National that one of the conditions of the peace agreement was for villagers to make citizens arrest of anyone attempting to set roadblocks along the Highlands Highway.
