Educator against adoption of OBE
A SENIOR educator in Sandaun province has warned that
Papua New Guinea’s education system will collapse if the Outcome Based
Education (OBE) curriculum is adopted.
Principal of St Ignatius Secondary School in Aitape Hillary Suamba said
OBE was contributing to a decline in education standards and should be
scrapped.
“We are all experiencing the effects of the education reform at all
levels, the biggest effect being the drop in academic and discipline
standards in schools,” Mr Suamba said.
“I hear and know that the new curriculum (OBE) is being trialed and will
replace the current curriculum. OBE has been trialed in states in
Australia and other countries and had failed.
“I had attended two workshops on OBE and I still have no clue about it.
“Can the Education Minister assess the effects and outcome of it?”
