NA eyes future without Chief

THE National Alliance Party is poising to prepare for life without its founding leader and current Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare.
This would be the focus when NA hosts a two-day convention at the University of Papua New Guinea’s main lecture theatre this Wednesday and Thursday.
The theme of the convention is “Institutionalising National Alliance Party” – an endeavour geared towards strengthening party policies.
“The party must stand on its policies and not on personalities,” a party insider said, adding that Sir Michael had been the face of the party but the old man will not return after 2012.
“We must now focus on strengthening the party policies and bringing up young energetic leaders.”
He cited Deputy Prime Minister Dr Puka Temu, Finance and Treasury Minister Patrick Pruaitch, National Planning and District Development Minister Paul Tiensten, Works, Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Don Polye and State Enterprise Minister Arthur Somare as the leaders who take the party forward.
