Bougainvillean woman jailed over baby’s death
A 19-YEAR-old Bougainvillean woman was found guilty of manslaughter of her child and was sentenced to six years in prison.
Charlice Lamete, who was then seven months pregnant, allowed a female friend to use drug to induce her to deliver her baby prematurely.
Failing to get medical assistance, the baby died soon after birth.
The sentence was handed down by National Court judge Justice David Cannings last week.

Remote school gets supplies
Hadlipi Community School in a remote Hadlipi village, Western province, received school supplies worth K6,627.87 from the Wawoi Guavi Timber Company (WGTC), a subsidiary of Rimbunan Hijau (PNG) Group.
The supplies comprise of rulers exercise books, chalk, pencils and other necessary supplies.
Assistant operations manager for the WGTC Wong Keh Yee presented the stationeries to the school board chairman Paul Soloplapi in the presence of the head master Bani Wata, landowner group chairman of Kamula Doso and villagers.
