MP buys equipment worth K700,000

SOUTH Fly MP Sali Subam has paid K700,000 to Ela Motors for three Hino trucks, two 10-seater land cruisers, three dinghies and three outboard motors for the people his electorate.
He had called on Ela Motors to arrange a training component where young people from the electorate to be trained to maintain the equipment.
He said his priority was land and sea transport with South Fly district having 300km of accessible road mainly on the mainland where these trucks would be used.
“My people of South Fly over the last 30 years have suffered due to very limited Government services in the district, mainly on the mainland,” he said.
He said this resulted in very little number of vehicles available to transport goods and services to the markets.
Mr Subam, who is also vice-minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Immigration, said the three outboard motors and three trucks would be given to the four local level government (LLG) councils to assist people with their transport requirement to market their cash crops and food at Morehead and Daru markets.
He said one Hino truck would be donated to Morehead, one to Daru Urban LLG, one to Oriomo LLG, one boat to Kiwai LLG, one 10-seater land cruiser to Morehead education department and the other will be donated to Morehead health centre.
The Hino truck for Daru would be used to move the sewerage buckets from homes to treatment plant.
Mr Subam said Daru was one of the few towns that was still using buckets in toilets and K50 million was needed for a modern sewerage system which was a challenge he would take on.
He said road infrastructure was very important for people to develop, prosper and experience changes in their lives.
“The current situation is that without roads, schools cannot be built, health services cannot be delivered and therefore during my five-year term, I will concentrate on the sea and road transport.”
Ela Motors regional manager Bob Hall commended Mr Subam for his plans for the district and said that Ela Motors had the best training facilities in the country and would try its best to work on the call.
