More than 150 students of the Institute of Christian
Academy (ICA) Boroko graduated with their ACE
certificate this year to demonstrate that they have
mastered and passed their prep or ABC phase
requirements.
The school held two separate graduations in September
and October at the sir John Guise Indoor Complex.
The students graduated in style in their blue gowns and
mortarboards standing proud like university graduates
before their parents, teachers and invited guests.
It was a time to prove to those witnessed that they are
now prepared to move into the next stage of learning,
advancing from Prep into Grade One under the accelerated
Christian education curriculum.
To prove that they all recited their alphabetical sounds
from A-Z along with their advanced sounds, said their 25
scripture verses and sang their alphabetical animal
songs.
A number of students were called up in front to read and
showcase how they have mastered the basis of reading a
word, a sentence, a paragraph and eventually a story.
Parents were speechless to see what the school has
taught their sons and daughters within nine to ten
months. Some shed tears of joy openly thanking God for
their blessing and achievement.
School Pastor David Harau, the guest speaker said it was
good to see that students of ICA desired to learn and
give their best to their studies.
God always look at us to give him the best, he said.
"In the next 10-20 years we will see the best for our
nation because these children will rise up and make a
difference for our nation," Pastor Harau said.
He said education is not only about getting a job; it's
about becoming the best in what you do.
"Once you become the best, you can produce the best as
well and God wants to see that," he told the students.
He urged students to have a vision which will be the
drive to help them accomplish what they want in life.
Mr. Harau said in ICA, the school was committed to
helping students spiritually and mentally.
ICA Boroko is one of the Christian primary schools in
the National Capital District established in 2005 with
the aim to provide balanced and quality education to
children at an affordable rate.
In the school's three years of operation, it is already
setting a high level of academic and disciplinary
standard for its students from Pre-School to Senior High
School.
Students are taught according to their individual
learning pace with set goals to meet everyday. If a
student doesn't complete his or her work, they take it
home as homework.
School dressing code and discipline are emphasized
daily. Bible studies, music and computing are taught as
well.
Principle of the ICA school Tobias Nanugunduo said they
have over 500 students with 10 classrooms and 34
employees including teaching and auxiliary staff.
He said his students are taught under the accelerated
Christian curriculum with phase work produced in America
and ordered in Brisbane.
Mr Nangunduo said in the next 10 years they are hoping
to bring the school into a stage where it can blend with
the public school so their grade 8, 10 and 12 students
can sit for the National examinations for places at
tertiary institutions.
