Dogs and Eagles settle for a draw

By HENRY MORABANG
THERE was no love lost between M3-Bulldogs and Mountain Eagles when they met in the Morata Off-Season Rugby League competition at Kone Tigers Oval in Port Moresby yesterday.
The Mountain Eagles was a splinter group from original M3-Bulldogs to form their own team. Both drew 4-4 at the final whistle.
The Dogs led by forwards Willie Kupa, Noel Jack, Chris Moss and Kayson Kapi never surrendered to the orginals M3-Bulldogs.
In their backline five-eighth Joe Lapa, wingers Nelson Tai and John Kawage were equal to task taking over the opposition territory.
The Eagles also proved that they are no easybeats. Led by David Apet at halfback and five-eighth Daniel Busu, they took total control of the match.
Player-coach Joshua Puke, Gabriel Loru, Kawson Yamo and Steven Timothy were also equal to the task against B3-Bulldogs.
Morata Rugby Football League president Billy Eki said there was a bit of roughness on the field because of disagreements in forming their own team.
“They all used to play for M3-Bulldogs but now they have formed Mountain Brothers which did not go down well with M3-Bulldogs however, it is the name of the game,” he said.
Eki said that so far he was pleased with the competition.
He said they (Morata League) would introduce U13 and U14 touch rugby competition along with the women’s volleyball competition.
