Newcomers beat Telikom in public servants netball

NEW team Post PNG humbled Telikom 45-18 in the Public Servants netball opening clash in the premier division in Port Moresby on Saturday.
Telikom, a dominant team in the competition, fell easy prey to the newcomers but according to Telikom that was a refresher game for the season opener.
The Post team made up of former Telikom in Ila Vala, Anne Dobbin, Miriam Mega and Karo Gigimat made a good run against former team mates in Mary Gumia and Iavu Gedisa.
In the first half Post PNG took an early charge at Telikom with the much needed points through Ila Vala and Miriam Mega with their combination the star show for the day. Telikom’s mid court were a little sloppy with minor errors which was an advantage for Post PNG.
Telikom realising their mistakes came back strongly, putting up a strong defence through goal-defender (GD) Iavu Gedisa and goal-keeper (GK) Kiri Vali-Gedisa. Post led at half time 18-7.
Telikom wanting to make up the 11 points difference started concentrating on their defence and shooting but Post PNG knew their tactics and read them well down to the last minute. Post were superb in all departments dashing home 45-18 at full time.
In the other premier matches NBC edged out Finance 30-28 and Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH), promoted to premier division this season, were too good for Works winning 36-18.
PMGH game was under the direction of old hand Weka Pala.
