Iakosi dominates Downtown 10,000

A SMALL and committed group of POM Road Runners competed in the annual “Downtown 10,000” through the streets of Port Moresby CBD.
Runners were favoured by a mild conditions and no wind to speak of.
Milton Iakosi set an early fast pace from the Deloitte Tower, closely trailed by a dozen other runners.
However, the pack soon strung out as the runners had to climb frequent hills and turn sharp corners around five laps of the city streets.
The constant climbing of hills and surging down the other side took its toll as two runners pulled out.
Iakosi lapped half the field in the last two laps to win comfortably and set a new record winning time of 39 mins 13 seconds.
Not too far behind was Joe Kaikai edging out James Gurumi for second and third place, respectively.
Next Saturday at 5pm POM Road Runners continue the “Spring into Summer Series” with round 3 starting Holiday Inn.
