Highlands need women’s doctors

I AM concerned over the ongoing neglect of the women’s health in the Highlands provinces.
There are many women with medical problems – gynaecological and obstetrical but there are no gynaecologist and obstetrician in these provinces for years.
I call on the Health Department to look into this. It cannot sit back and allow our mothers, wives, sisters and daughters to suffer in silence.
In this day and age, PNG must be proactive to improve women’s and children’s health.
For those who can afford it, they go overseas to seek treatment.
Health Secretary Dr Clement Malau must make a commitment on behalf of the Government, to address this issue urgently.
The Highlands’ governors too, must put some funds together as incentives to entice these specialists to take up positions with hospitals in the Highlands provinces.
Hospital administrators must also be good managers and attentive to the needs of their specialist colleagues, making sure the working environment is conducive and hospitals well equipped to manage the demand.
