Regional ratings conference underway

By NATALIE LAVI
THE regional ratings conference facilitated by the Department of Education to rate teachers’ reports for the elementary, primary and secondary school inspections for the Momase and Southern regions began yesterday and will end on Friday.
The Highlands and New Guinea Islands regional ratings conference would be held in Kundiawa and Lorengau from Nov 13 to 19.
This year will be the third time for the conference to be held on a regional level for primary and secondary inspections instead of the national ratings conferences held in the past.
The rating conferences were held purposely to bring in reports from all provinces to their designated regional centres for rating.
This ratings conference will serve to evaluate teachers’ work for the year and determine the basis for their promotions and award of entitlements as well as allowing them to reflect on their practices and improve their standard of work.
The conference will also rate and register the performance of graduates teaching in elementary, primary and secondary schools.
Secretary for Education Dr Joseph Pagelio said that standard officers had a vital role in maintaining quality education standards by advising and supporting schools and teachers to implement curriculum as well as providing inspection reports.
He said that the purpose of inspection was to maintain and sustain a professional standard in teaching and school management.
